5 Things Successful People do to Reach their Dreams

#1: They stop wondering if they’re good or worthy enough to do great things.

Many people are stuck in the endless cycle of thinking they’re not good enough or smart, talented, young, experienced, educated, worthy enough to achieve what they have been wanting to. Their confidence has been compromised and they are convinced that they don’t deserve to achieve their dreams, and what they are doing is fulfilling their own prophecy of inadequacy. The negative state actually blocks them from moving ahead, and this really sabotages their own growth and success.
Try this: Stop wondering if you’re worthy enough. If you have a dream, go for it! The fact that you’re thinking of it means you are meant to do something about it, despite the outcome. You are good enough, but you have to believe that and start being the person you want to be.

#2: They surround themselves with joyful people.

You may already know this… misery is contagious, and it’s sneaky. You don’t even realise your sky has turned grey until it’s too late. That’s why successful people don’t surround themselves with people who are always negative and miserable, but guess what’s more contagious than misery? Happiness! In fact, a new study by researchers at Harvard University and the University of California has found that when a person is happy, a friend living close by has a 25% higher chance of becoming happy themselves. A spouse experiences an 8% increased chance, and for next-door neighbours, it’s 34%. So, you know what to do!

#3: They commit, they keep going and keep learning.

You know that person you deeply admire for doing something great? That greatness didn’t happen in the blink of an eye, and definitely did not come easy. It’s been a long and challenging journey for them. They tried hard, they fell down, they picked themselves up again and they kept going. Even if they may have pivoted to a new direction entirely, the point is, they kept growing. Instead of feeling embarrassed about their failure, they turned their failures into new successes because of what they learned. According to Dr. Carol Dweck who is a Stanford University psychologist and author of the bestselling book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, commitment to brave action that moves you forward emerges from a “growth mindset.”.
Try this: Instead of focusing on the failure and the feeling of disappointment, try and focus on the learnings. What led to the failure? What could you have done better? List these down and work towards a better solution. Sometimes new pivots emerge from this type of analysis too.

#4: They connect with people who uplift and support them on the path to their dreams.

Guess what? There are so many people who are trying to hack it out alone. The thing is, we all need people in our lives who can uplift and teach us. You cannot have an amazing career or life that fulfills your biggest dreams without the help of others, it’s just not possible. Successful people understand they can’t do it alone, and they don’t want to. People who are achieving their most thrilling visions have realised that fact and embrace it. Instead of feeding their ego and trying to prove that they can do it alone, or that they don’t need anybody, they get people who uplift and support them. They know that powerful support, including mentors, sponsors, and ambassadors who believe in them, are an essential ingredient to success. That’s why they are where they are today.
Try this: Come on, don’t stay stuck alone… come out of that bubble. There are amazing people out there in the world right now who are waiting in the wings to help you rise and soar to your highest potential. All you have to do is ask. Start building a supportive network of people who inspire you.  Don’t wait.

#5: They practice silence.

“I first notice the reassuring sounds of life around me: birds calling, traffic rumbling, people chattering, but if I then shift my focus inward — whether on a walk or in yoga, in meditation or before sleep — I tap into a realm of ideas, inventions, and solutions my rational mind could never have known,” says Suzanne Skees, founder of Skees Family Foundation, which has invested $1.7 million in education and job creation to end global poverty.
Try this: Instead of being frenetic over the tasks at hand and trying to power through, take the time to hear the how, and everything else falls gracefully into place.

Barbecued oysters with garlic, paprika & Parmesan butter

Ingredients
2324454.jpg12 rock oysters
chunks of bread , to serve (optional)

For the butter
60g butter, at room temperature
1 tsp parsley leaves
50g parmesan, grated
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp onion powder

Method
STEP 1
In a small bowl, beat the butter until it’s completely soft, then add the remaining ingredients. Lay a piece of cling film out on a clean work surface. Spoon the butter into the centre, then roll up tightly into a sausage shape. Keep in the fridge until ready to use. Will keep for a week in the fridge or up to 3 months in the freezer.

STEP 2
Light the barbecue and let it burn until the coals are glowing whitehot. Now shuck your oysters. Fold a tea towel into a strip and lie it on a firmly positioned chopping board (held in place underneath by a damp kitchen towel). Put the oysters on the towel, curved-side down, and wrap the tea towel over to sandwich it. Use a strong knife, preferably a shucking knife, to firmly pierce the hinge of the oyster, then turn it to open the oyster until you hear it pop. Work the knife around the edge of the shell, being careful not to cut into the oyster, until you can remove the lid. Disconnect the oyster from its shell on the bottom so it slides out easily.

STEP 3
Slice a round of the butter on top of each oyster and put on the barbecue, grilling for 6 mins or until bubbling. Serve with some chunks of bread to mop up the juices, if you like.
